LEAP joins forces with Highland LGBT Forum for new project

LEAP Sports Scotland and Highland LGBT Forum have been successful in a joint bid to the recent Scottish Government Social Isolation and Loneliness Fund.

The two organisations have joined forces to develop a one year project which will focus on building the capacity of community groups and helping community members to develop new initiatives. The project aims to reduce the social, geographic and identity isolation that LGBTI people living in the region experience.

Chair of the Highland LGBT Forum Darren Rutherford said: “We are delighted to be partnering with LEAP Sports to deliver this much needed project to our community living across the Highlands. In a membership survey last year, 82% of members identified that more support was required for community members and groups, and we are very pleased to be taking this significant step towards making that a reality”.

LEAP Sports have recognised the need to be doing more to support LGBTI communities who live in rural and remote areas of Scotland and recognise that access to community, sports and health initiatives are very different in those areas. This project gives LEAP Sports an important opportunity to work on growing some new sport, activity and health improvement opportunities in the area.

A new Project Officer position is being advertised in the area and you can find out more information by clicking on this link.
