Pride House Champion - Peter Tatchell

LEAP Sports Scotland is delighted to annouce that Peter Tatchell, human rights campaigner and Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, has become a Champion of Pride House Glasgow.

Peter’s work in seeking global equality for LGBT people means challenging some of the countries that will be represented at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He is urging the organisers of Glasgow 2014 to require competing nations to sign a pledge of non-discrimination in their team selection in accordance with Article 7 of the constitution of the Commonwealth Games Federation.

Peter has written a blog post for the Pride House web site which can be seen at this link:

He and other special and inspiring guests will be speaking at the Pride House opening ceremony which is at 7.00pm on Wednesday 23rd July 2014.

Peter Tatchell said:

‘I am really proud and honoured to be a Champion of Pride House and to support the terrific work done by LEAP Sports Scotland. Pride House is going to be a valued meeting point for LGBT athletes and spectators from across the Commonwealth. It will be a visible, positive presence at Glasgow 2014. This is especially important for LGBT visitors from Commonwealth countries where homophobia and transphobia forces LGBT people to hide their sexuality and gender identity — and threatens them with arrest and violence.’
