COVID Response Funding Launched

LEAP open COVID-19 response funding to support LGBTI sport.

LEAP Sports are pleased to launch COVID-19 response funding for the LGBTI sports community. This fund comes from money which has been given to a partnership of LGBTI organisations including,Equality Network; LEAP Sports Scotland; LGBT Youth Scotland; and LGBT Health and Wellbeing. The partnership was awarded £87,700 from the The Scottish Government’s Supporting Communities Fund via The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland. LEAP has been given a proportion of this fund to allocate towards sport and physical activity through an LGBTI Sports Provision Fund and an LGBTI Sports Welfare Fund.

LGBTI Sports Provision Fund:

This is a £9,000 fund set up for recovery and to offset the financial impact of COVID-19 on LGBTI sports providers. LEAP has set out the following fund criteria to ensure maximum benefit for LGBTI sports clubs, groups, initiatives and programmes across Scotland:

  • Sports groups* must be not for profit and for LGBTI people.
  • Individuals cannot apply.
  • Requested funds must be for a purpose.
  • The fund is not designed for large amounts.
  • All money must be committed by the 30th September 2020.
  • We will not fund duplication.
  • This funding is for recovery and offsetting the negative financial impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • This survey should be completed by 31st July 2020.

This funding is open to *LGBTI sports/physical activity clubs, groups, initiatives and programmes. These must be not-for-profit and include sports/physical activity clubs and groups who strongly identify as being LGBTI-specific or LGBTI-inclusive. Initiatives and programmes are eligible if they deliver sport/ physical activity specifically targeted at the LGBTI community. Clubs, groups, initiatives and programmes may use a wider acronym e.g. LGBTQIA+ or target a segment of the community e.g. trans people.

This fund is for recovery and offsetting the negative financial impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, as such your club or group should have been in existence prior to lockdown on 23rd March 2020. Requested funds must be for a purpose, examples of how funding may be used include, but are not limited to, club travel, venue costs and equipment. We will not fund duplication and any money must be committed by 30th September 2020.

Please note that a short report will be required in October 2020.

LGBTI Sports Welfare Fund:

We also have a separate £5,000 welfare fund available for members or participants of LGBTI sports/ physical activity clubs, groups, initiatives and programmes who require financial aid in order to maintain their participation in sport/physical activity. Please enquire with your LGBTI sports provider before 31st July for more information.
