Get Out Glasgow News - May 2025

The Get Out Glasgow group provides free introductions to sport and physical activity for LGBTIQ+ people in Greater Glasgow.

Last month 6 participants attended a contemporary dance taster session with Tayfun Dance. We also held the third Get Out Glasgow steering group meeting, the next meeting will be in July, please contact robin@leapsports.org if you’d like to help shape the future of Get Out Glasgow.

Some participants enjoyed a walk around Pollok Park and LGBTIQ+ tour of the Burrell Collection. Our LGBTIQ+ women’s cycling programme started with a cycle confidence course which ends next week. Look out for a cycle touring course in July and August.
Coming Up!
Squash taster 6.15-7.30pm Friday 9th May.
LEAP Sports is partnering with Scottish Squash Racquets Club to provide a learn to play squash taster session, followed by a 4 week course.
Scottish Squash Racquets Club was established in 1934 and is Scotland's oldest squash club. They are based in Maryhill and have 4 squash courts.

Volunteer for Festival Fortnight
Passionate about inclusive sport? Looking for a way to give back to the community? We are looking for volunteers to support Scotland's LGBTIQ+ Sports Festival; Festival Fortnight 2025. Running from 14th-30th June there will be a wide range of sporting, recreational and social events taking place Scotland wide, aimed at increasing visibility and participation of LGBTIQ+ people in sport.
Volunteers will attend and can take part in events, provide essential support to partners and attendees and share feedback with the LEAP Sports team. Volunteers should also be comfortable with a small amount of public speaking and be available to attend events mostly in the evenings or weekends.
We are hosting a FF2025 Volunteer Information Session on Monday 19th May 18:00-18:45 on Zoom that you are welcome to attend if you would like to hear more about the festival and what volunteering will involve.

Festival Fortnight - host an event
Festival Fortnight is Scotland’s LGBTIQ+ sports festival coordinated by LEAP Sports from 14th-30th June 2025. Grant applications have now closed. If you’d like to run an unfunded event please complete this form by 26th May. For any questions please contact festivalfortnight@leapsports.org
Support Trans Rights - Calls to Action
Following the Supreme Court ruling on FWS vs Scottish Ministers on 16th April, there have been a lot of interpretations of its meaning and a great deal of activity. In this round-up, we aim to summarise some of the key information and links including calls to action and things that you can do.
Glasgow Autonomous Space are also hosting an event to support people to write to their MP and the EHRC to resist the bathroom bill on Tuesday 13th May from 6-8pm. More info here.
TransActive Community Support session
TransActive are hosting a second online support session on Thursday 15th May from 6-7.30pm for trans and non-binary people to come together in response to the Supreme Court Ruling. This will be an opportunity to share feelings and experiences and to share LEAP Sport's understanding of how the ruling impacts the trans and non-binary community, particularly in terms of our participation in sport.
