Ten-pin Bowling 2022 Round-Up

Results from this year’s LGBT History Month ten-pin bowling competitions!

This February we hosted our annual LGBT History Month ten-pin bowling tournaments for the 9th time since 2013! After having to cancel last year’s tournament due to Covid, it was fantastic to be back in action, and to welcome so many corporates, youth groups, and sports & community groups to all 5 tournaments.

Corporate Cup

On Thursday 17th February, the Corporate Cup took place at VEGA Glasgow on the top floor of YOTEL. We hosted 8 corporate teams, many of which had taken part in the competition in previous years:

  • Barclays Spectrum
  • Barclays Scotland
  • HSBC
  • Morgan Stanley
  • Scottish LGBTI Police Association
  • LGBT+ @ Sky Network
  • Sandyford Clinic
  • First Direct

Congratulations to the 2022 champions - Barclays Spectrum! LGBT+ (see main photo) @ Sky came 2nd, followed by Morgan Stanley in 3rd! Huge thanks to those who got involved as your contributions went towards funding the Youth Cup bowling tournament.

Youth Cup

We had the Youth Cup on Sunday 20th February at Tenpin Falkirk. We hosted 9 teams of LGBTIQ+ young people from youth groups, including:

  • Kirkcaldy High School LGBT+ Group
  • Waid Academy Pride Group
  • Kibble LGBT Youth Group
  • Inverkeithing High School PRIDE Group
  • SAGA Youth Group
  • Youth2

Congratulations to Kirkcaldy High School for winning this year’s tournament! One of Waid Academy’s teams came 2nd and Kibble came 3rd! Well done everyone and thank you for coming.

West Community Cup

The West Community Cup took place on Friday 25th February at Hollywood Bowl in Glasgow. The West Cup is the longest running community tournament, and the Glasgow FrontRunners have been the reigning champions every year. Despite having a lot more competition this year with 9 teams taking part, the Glasgow FrontRunners went and won the cup yet again! Congratulations to all sports clubs and community groups involved: Glasgow FrontRunners, Glasgow Raptors, Outdoor Lads, Get Back OUT, and Trans Active Glasgow. We hope to see you again next year!

East Community Cup

The East Community Cup took place on Saturday 26th February at World of Bowling in Edinburgh. This was the 3rd edition of the tournament and we had representatives from the Edinburgh Frontrunners, Colinton Squashers & Padelers, and the Edinburgh Racqueteers. The participants decided to play as mixed teams rather than as sports clubs, so we had 4 teams take part in this year’s competition, with ‘3 Shoes & 2 Feathers’ taking home the trophy. Well done to all those involved!

  1. 3 Shoes & 2 Feathers
  2. Endemic Stars
  3.  3 Beans and a Butternut
  4. Play Up!

North Community Cup

This tournament is the ‘youngest’ of all 5, having hosted the inaugural North Community Cup in February 2020, and this year being the 2nd edition. Since the sports and community groups in the North region are more spread out, we asked teams to organise their own local bowling events and send in their scores. We had 10 teams take part from the following groups: Aberdeen Frontrunners, Dundee Frontrunners, Perth Parrots, Perthshire Pride, Inverness City Roller Derby, Pink Saltire, and Connexons. Thank you all for taking part!

The North Community Cup 2022 champions are Connexons 2! In 2nd place, we have Aberdeen Frontrunners 1 and 3rd place went to Connexons 1.

See you all next year!
