Youth rowing event in Largs 

On Saturday, LEAP Sports hosted an event in Largs in conjunction with the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club (FOCCRs). The introduction to coastal rowing for young people was part of the Year of Coasts and Waters events, and acted as a prelude to Pride Youth Games which is due to take place in Largs in August 2022.  

The event was split into land based training activity, and getting out in boats to put it into action. In addition to the sports focus, we looked at the sustainable practices that are central values to the sport.  

Rachel told us "Today is an opportunity that you don't normally get. I felt very welcome and I really loved it", whilst Michael said "I'm 19 and that's the first time I've ever been on a boat and I want to do it again".

A huge thanks to the FOCCRs crew for making us feel so welcome, and to Youthlink Scotland who managed the Year of Coasts & Waters microgrants.
