Festival Fortnight's Super Saturday and Sunday

Join us for Super Saturday and Super Sunday - our bumper weekend of Festival Fortnight events on the 29th and 30th of June!

Festival Fortnight, Scotland’s LGBTIQ+ sports festival, is off to an exciting start this year. There are over 100 events that encourage and celebrate LGBTQIA+ participation in sport - from ziplining up in Durness, to surfing down in the Borders, there’s something for everyone across the country!

On the 29th and 30th of June you're spoiled for choice, with 30 events taking place over that weekend alone. Our Super Saturday and Super Sunday are packed full of runs, walks, come-and-try sessions, youth events, fun activities, and tournaments. Here is just a selection of things you can get involved with over the final two days of the Festival:

Come and Try

There’s a whole host of different sports you can dip your toe into across the weekend. Give climbing a go in Kilmarnock and Dundee; play tennis with Dundee Deuces; kick a football around in Portobello and Glasgow; try paddleboarding or canoeing in the Cairngorms; get your skates on with Ness City Rollers; and see which ball suits you best in Glasgow’s basketball, baseball and volleyball open sessions. Come-and-try events welcome everyone, whether you’re brand new to a sport or you’ve played for years. They’re a great way to meet your future LGBTQIA+ teammates!

Just for Fun

We’ve put together a highlight of four fun activities to suit a range of interests on Super Sunday. Drop-in to Uplifted Titans for their family-friendly 10 Tonne Challenge - even the smallest muscles can contribute towards collectively lifting the weight of an African bush elephant! Fans of Strictly Come Dancing can give Ballroom and Latin a go at this Inverness Tea Dance, with routines for dancers of all experience levels. And in Glasgow’s Southside you can enjoy short films and a community discussion about queer leadership in the outdoors with Pride Outside, before heading over to the Glad Cafe for a Euro’s watch party to finish off the Festival with food, football and friends.

Runs and Walks

On Saturday morning, join LGBTIQ+ meet-ups at Parkruns in Perth, Alness and Stornoway. Everyone is welcome, whether you’ll be running, walking or spectating. Or, if you fancy going further, you can try 5k, 7.5k or 10k runs with Glasgow Frontrunners on Sunday at their Run Free session. For those who prefer a slower pace to life, beautiful walks have been organised too. On Saturday you can join the Rainbow Dudes at Glasgow Central for an afternoon in Balloch and on Sunday the Perth Parrots invite you for a breakfast roll, a hot drink and a hike up Kinnoull Hill to enjoy stunning views together from the top.

Tournaments

We have a whopping five competitive tournaments that you can get involved with across the weekend. If racket sports are your thing, join Edinburgh Curveballs on Saturday at their Open Squash Tournament and Badminton Scotland on Sunday for their doubles tournament. Alternatively, what better way to spend Super Sunday than at the Strangers Super Cup, returning after last year’s footballing success. We’re also excited to introduce two brand new tournaments in Glasgow: the Rainbow Basketball Cup is bringing together teams from all over Scotland and the Rain or Shine Fast 5s Netball Tournament celebrates the many physical, mental and social benefits of the sport. All tournaments are mixed gender and welcome spectators.

Youth Events

Finally, there are outdoor events for youth and family groups taking place on Saturday and Sunday. In Perth, young people who are members of LGBT Youth Scotland’s GLOW group will enjoy a trip to an outdoor activity centre. And in Glasgow, families involved with groups run by LEAP Sports will get together for a community day of playful and relaxed games, sports and activities. Both sessions are for group members only, but you can find out how to join via the event listings.

Whatever you're into, we hope you can join us in celebrating the end of Festival Fortnight 2024 on Super Saturday and Super Sunday!
