Get Out Glasgow August News!

26th August 2025

The Get Out Glasgow group provides free introductions to sport and physical activity for LGBTIQ+ people in Greater Glasgow.

Over the past month participants have enjoyed a walk around the Necropolis, a gymnastics taster session with City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club and a cricket taster session and course with Cricket Scotland and Clydesdale Cricket Club.

Our LGBTIQ+ women’s cycle touring course participants have learnt what to wear and pack, how to plan an enjoyable route, tried out tents, bivvy bags, tarps and camping stoves, and cycled to Dawsholm Park and Lambhill Stables. Next week there's a hilly cycle to Cathkin Braes in preparation for the trip to Arran in September!

Your Feedback

During our walk around the Necropolis we asked Get Out Glasgow members for feedback on what activities they’d like to take part in, and what ideas they have for how we could improve accessibility, community building and LGBTIQ+ inclusion.

To improve inclusion for people with English as an additional language we’ve added a question to our sign-up form to help us identify if you need support. We’ve also added information about travel support for those with reduced mobility, arranging for personal assistants to accompany you to an activity and ways to give feedback anonymously.

People mentioned that they enjoyed a bit of time for socialising before or after an activity, especially during a course, so we’ll try to incorporate this where possible.

Your Stories

We’ve got 2 amazing stories to share from participants in Get Out Glasgow.

Joy has been with us for 2 years and most recently took part in our squash programme:

‘I’ve always felt like with you guys, with Get Out Glasgow, every time I arrive somewhere new and I try a new sport I don’t feel any anxiety. I know this is going to be safe. No-one is going to judge me here. I wouldn’t ever have seen inside the club if it wasn’t for Get Out Glasgow. I wouldn’t be able to see or access any of these places.’

Check out her story here.

Bug took part in our climbing programme in February:

‘I feel like maybe more consideration was put into how we’re all different in terms of neurodivergence and different gender representations and pronouns. My previous experience is that it's not really been considered so it’s nice not to have to worry about all that stuff because it’s been thought about.’

If you’d be interested in being interviewed for a case study or writing a blog to share your experience of accessing LGBTIQ+ inclusive sport and physical activity check out our top tips and contact robin@leapsports.org with your ideas.
