IDAHOBIT 2024: Scottish sports sector joins LEAP in support for LGBTIQ people

Scottish sports community unites against LGBTIQ-phobia on this International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT).

In times of crisis, it is the most disadvantaged in our communities who struggle to be heard and for this year’s International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia we stand together as a Scottish sports community to make our voice heard and to speak up for the rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Scotland and around the world.

The May17 organisation has set this year’s IDAHOBIT theme as “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all”.

We are proud of our LEAP community groups and partners, who continue to champion inclusion and diversity during every single interaction, game, training, team social and campaign. Without the motivation and dedication of leaders in these settings, LGBTIQ inclusion in sport in Scotland would be in a completely different place. We believe the strength is in our communities and within the sports sector in Scotland to ensure no one is left behind.

Along with our colleagues within Scottish sport, we have today shared the following message across socials.

Today, on #IDAHOBIT2024 we unite against LGBTIQ-phobia and we stand together to support inclusion and equality of LGBTIQ+ people in sport and physical activity. Scottish sport is for everyone and no one should be left behind. #DiverseSport

Check out social media channels for messages from across the sector by looking up #IDAHOBIT2024 or #DiverseSport. We will share content throughout the day.

You can join us in standing up for the LGBTIQ community by becoming a volunteer with LEAP, by joining one of our projects as a participant or by joining one of the LGBTIQ inclusive sports clubs near you.
