Love Football Due to be a Hearty Success!

Edinburgh’s annual Love Football tournament champions diversity.

Forget a lusty Valentine’s dinner at Café Rouge, the main attraction in Edinburgh this weekend is the 8th annual Love Football 5-a-side tournament, hosted by HotScots FC, Scotland’s first LGBT football club, at the World of Football.

This year’s tournament will be played as part of the Football v Homophobia month of action, and as part of LGBT History Month.

Championing diversity in football, the tournament will gather football teams from all across the United Kingdom, as well as a handful of local Edinburgh teams, to compete for the coveted Love Football trophy. LGBT-friendly teams join the HotScots and Edinburgh-based amateur teams, a SMESU Explorer Scout contingent, teams from the community wing of Hibernian FC and local businesses. An array of different types of teams is part of the tournament’s ethos, aiming to break down social barriers and promote sporting diversity.

Last year the main trophy was won by the hosts, Edinburgh’s HotScots FC, in what was their first time winning their own tournament. The secondary vase trophy was won by Healthy Hibs, who defeated two other HotScots squads on their path to victory.

“We’re delighted at how successful this tournament has been year on year. We’re proud to continue our commitment to diversity in football and ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to play and compete,” said HotScots committee member, Tom Chalmers.

The club continue to stand on a strong platform for tackling issues through football. If you want to get involved in their work, you can reach them on Facebook, Twitter or through email at mail@hotscotsfc.com.
