Qeltic Games Opening Event

Civic Reception

On Thursday 30th April, this year's Qeltic Games was opened with a special civic reception by Glasgow City Council held in Glasgow's City Chambers. We were joined by delivery partners, supporters, stakeholders and colleagues from across the city's sport sector.

We were also joined by a very special guest Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games mascot Finnie.

Baillie Margaret Morgan welcomed us on behalf of Glasgow City Coucil to the City Chambers, and she spoke strongly of the importance of inclusive sports initiatives to Glasgow. LEAP Sports Trustee Amy McDonald delivered a round of thanks speaking powerfully about the reasons that Qeltic Games takes place. Finally we heard from Glasgow 2026 CEO, Phil Batty, who officially opened the games, and shared his own personal testimony of finding community through inclusive sport, recognising Qetlic Games as part of All In, the Scotland-wide movement celebrating the Commonwealth Games.

The reception kicked off a weekend of sport as the Games swung into action.
