Sport leads at the Proud Scotland Awards

Sport was a big winner at this year's Proud Scotland Awards, with sporting organisations and leaders recognised across multiple categories for their contribution to LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality.

The Stenhousemuir FC Community Foundation Rainbow Warriors claimed the Sport & Recreation Award, recognising their work to improve LGBTQ+ inclusion and participation in sport. The award caps a highly successful year for the Rainbow Warriors, who were also runners-up in the Football v Homophobia Scotland category at this year's Football v Homophobia Awards.

This year's Sport & Recreation Award was exceptionally competitive, with Dunedin Fencing Club, Jacqui Low, Mark Welsh, LGBTQ+ Fitness and Lifestyle Coach, Out and About Ayrshire, and Pink Kelpie Volleyball Club all joining the Rainbow Warriors on the shortlist.

Sporting success extended beyond the Sport & Recreation category. Glasgow City FC's Love is Love campaign won Pride / Community Event of the Year (or Campaign of the Year), recognising the club's commitment to promoting equality, inclusion and visibility through football.

Meanwhile, Glasgow City FC Chief Executive Laura Montgomery received the Excellence in Equality Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to advancing equality and inclusion.As one of the most influential figures in Scottish football, Laura has consistently championed opportunities for underrepresented groups and helped drive positive change across the game.

Together, these achievements highlight the important role sport continues to play in creating more inclusive communities across Scotland. From grassroots participation programmes to national campaigns and sector-leading leadership, the winners demonstrated how sport can be a powerful force for positive change.
