Team Scotland event

EuroGames Vienna

There will be an LGBTIQ+ Team Scotland participating at the 2024 EuroGames in Vienna next month. Participating athletes gathered at the Centre for Sport and Exercise, Pleasance in Edinburgh this week to collect their team kit and look forward to the event.

We were joined by Scottish Government Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing & Sport, Maree Todd MSP, and CEO of sportscotland Forbes Dunlop, as we recognised the 40+ strong team, celebrated the distinct visibility that Team Scotland has brought to EuroGames and Gay Games, and discussed plans for the event.

The event also took the opportunity to hear about the impact that participating has had on peoples lives over the years, and had some poignant reminders of the power of inclusive sport. You can hear Natalie's story directly in the following video montage:

More than 4,000 LGBTIQ+ athletes in total will travel to Vienna from July 17th-20th 2024 to take part in the annual European wide EuroGames multisports tournament. The Games have taken place since 1992 with participants from all over Europe and beyond, licensed by the European Gay & Lesbian Sports Federation. LEAP Sports has been organising a Team Scotland since 2017, and Vienna marks only the 6th time we have organised a team.

The EuroGames took place in Bern last year, and you can read about the experiences of Team Scotland here. Earlier this year, our friends from Pride Sports Cymru won the right to host the 2027 EuroGames in Cardiff which will mark the first time that it has ever taken place in the UK.
