Tribute to Christina McKelvie
8th April 2025
Christina McKelvie
We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Christina McKelvie MSP. Christina was a dedicated campaigner for equality, a strong advocate for social justice, and understood community activism. Her passing is a real loss to equality in Scotland, to Scottish politics and to the many people whose lives she touched through her work.
Her ministerial roles, first in Equalities and later in Culture, Europe, and International Development, allowed her to pursue change she cared deeply about. She had a great understanding of the challenges for LGBTIQ+ people, and we had the privilege to meet with her on a range of issues.
Throughout her career, Christina worked with kindness, energy and compassion to build a fairer, more equal, more just world, and she will be sadly missed.
PHOTOS: Our main photo was from outside Pride House in Glasgow during the European Championships in summer 2018, showing Christina taking a trip in the Pride House rickshaw with Philipa York. The photo below was Christina joining us for afternoon tea at Pride House in Birmingham as part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
