Proud Tartan Army Launch Event

The Proud Tartan Army celebrate as Scotland men’s team lead their Euro 2024 qualifying group with 9 points.

The Proud Tartan Army - Scotland National Team’s LGBTIQ+ football supporters group - held their launch event on Saturday 17th June at Strathclyde Student’s Union in Glasgow. The group gathered to watch the Norway v Scotland match, and there could not have been a better occasion for the first meet-up.

Haaland's goal from the penalty spot just after the hour mark looked to have given the Norwegians a victory which would have revived their Group A hopes. But out of nothing Dykes pounced on a mistake with three minutes of normal time remaining to snatch what seemed like a brilliant point for Scotland.

Barely two minutes later substitute McLean swept the ball home to send the travelling Tartan Army into ecstasy and secure a scarcely believable three points. Victory kept Scotland top of Group A on a maximum nine points, six clear of Spain, and eight in front of Norway.

In attendance at the launch event were members of LGBTIQ+ club supporters groups Proud Huddle, Ibrox Pride and Hibees Pride; players from Saltire Thistle FC and Hotscots FC, and staff from the Scottish Football Association. It was fantastic to see some new faces too, with hopes of a more regular schedule of events for the Proud Tartan Army.

You can follow the Proud Tartan Army on Twitter, as well as Football v Homophobia Scotland for further updates. If you would like to get involved in organising get togethers and other events, please contact the group directly.
