Team Scotland in Bern

Scottish athletes take part in EuroGames Bern

From July 27th - 29th, the 20th edition of the EuroGames took place in Bern, Switzerland. Around 20 athletes from Scotland participated in badminton, floorball, football, petanque, swimming and track & field events. The team selected Jack McLean to be our flagbearer this year. Commenting on the experience, Jack said "Attending the EuroGames Bern 2023 and representing Team Scotland not only as a player but as flag bearer was an absolute honour. I will remember the experience for the rest of my life".

Medals were won in badminton, floorball, swimming and on the track.  Taking part in their first Games, the Perth Parrots stunned the favourites to take the bronze medal in a nailbiting floorball tournament.

The team were commended for their strong community spirit and excellent ambassadorial presence, and were featured on both Bern local TV and the Swiss national news with Bill Gardiner appearing on both and Amanda Fleet being featured.

The UK Embassy in Bern worked with teams and athletes around the UK to profile their participation and showed strong support for LGBTIQ+ rights. During the event, we attended a welcome apero at the British Ambassador's residence.

LGBTIQ+ Team Scotland have been participating internationally since Paris 2018. If you would like more information on taking part, or to be put on the Team Scotland mailing list, drop us a line at info@leapsports.org
