Pride Youth Games took place in Wrexham

This weekend, 80 LGBTIQ+ young people took part in Pride Youth Games, a UK-wide annual inclusive physical activity residential. Participants aged 16-25 were treated to a diverse programme of sports and workshops in the Wrexham Glyndwr University campus in Wales. Golf, tennis, sailing, wheelchair basketball, netball, dodgeball, football, yoga, tai chi and street dance were amongst the activities on offer this year.

After organising the residential last year in Scotland, LEAP Sports had the pleasure of taking part in the event organised by our partners Pride Sports Cymru and Pride Cymru, by taking 32 participants to Wales.

Running from Friday the 4th of August to the closing ceremony on the 6th of August, the Games allowed participants the opportunity to try new sports events and physical activities, many for the first time. Our participants were able to get connected and meet new friends from Scotland, England, and Wales.

The activities were focused on increasing participation and on enabling a safe and inclusive environment for people to try out new activities. The event received great support from sport clubs and organisations, many of whom came to showcase their sport and deliver sessions to the participants.

It was also announced that Pride Youth Games will be held in Cumbria in 2024.
